BJP MLA from Indore Usha Thakur’s diktat to Garba organisers to stop Muslim youths from attending such functions has elicited support from some unusual quarters -- an organisation of Muslims.
Madhya Pradesh Muslim Vikas Parishad president Mohammad Mahir has welcomed Usha Thakur’s statement saying that Muslim youths shouldn’t take part in such gatherings.
The Indore MLA, Usha Thakur, had said that the organisers of garba festivals shouldn’t allow Muslim youths to attend garba and must ensure that they would allow participants to enter only after showing their I-cards.
He said it was surprising to know that Muslim youths took part in such functions. "This was the first time when an MLA of a responsible party had admitted this in public. If this practice existed it was not good for Muslim youths."
Mahir said that Prophet Mohammad had said that those who followed or adopted others’ religious practices were not among those who were following Islam.
Hence, said Mahir, if there had been any practice on the part of Muslims youths, male or female, to take part in such Garba functions they should immediately stop this and seek forgiveness from the God.
Meanwhile, scores of volunteers of a local organisation formed a human chain to protest 'Love Jihad' from Jyoti Talkies to Board Office square in Bhopal on Friday evening.
