On hearing the screams of the lady of the house, five men — Pankaj Sharma, Balram Jat, Gopal Jat, Kanchan Bihari and Dharmendra Jat — allegedly rushed in and thrashed the man suspecting him to be a thief.
They then tied him to a tree and continued beating. Neighbours witnessing the scene called the police who arrived and rescued the man.
Instead of taking him to a hospital for medical treatment and questioning, the cops dumped the badly injured man in the nearby forest area, said Surendra Singh, station house officer, Kardhani. Subsequently, the man died and his body was recovered on Friday evening.
