A close aide of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, Ankit Bhadu managed to escape after a shoot-out with joint team police from Sriganganagar and Haryana on Sunday.
The shoot-out took place near Sadulshahar circle of Sadulshahar police station area of Sriganganagar district when police were chasing Ankit Bhadu, who had a reward of ₹55,000 on his head.
According to police sources, Bhadu, who is on Rajasthan Police’s ‘Most Wanted’ list, is wanted in connection with numerous cases of murder, extortion, loot and dacoity.
Bhadu is also wanted in the Pankaj Soni murder case and the Sriganganagar district police announced a reward of ₹5,000 and ₹50,000 for his arrest.
Inspector general of police (IGP), Bikaner range, Dinesh MN said that Haryana police were chasing the gangster and informed Sadulshahar police about his possible hideout.
Bhadu escaped from Haryana police and entered Sadulshahar.
A joint team of Haryana and Sriganganagar police launched a search operation and Bhadu was spotted in an agriculture field, but he managed to flee on a bike after opening fire. The police team fired in retaliation and put up barricades at the borders.
Hanumangarh, Sriganganagar and neighbouring Punjab police were alerted following the escape, but Bhadu called his gang members for a backup, police said. Sources said that Bhadu reached his aides near Noorpura village and managed to escape.
Haryana police did not inform the local police about their operation and this misunderstanding led to the escape of the wanted criminal, police said. “Since the shoot-out took place in Sadulshahar area, a fresh case will be registered against Ankit Bhadu,” Yogesh Kumar Yaday, superintend of police, Sriganganagar said.
