AICC media department convener Priyanka Chaturvedi on Wednesday alleged that state BJP government promised Suraaj (good governance) before coming to power but gave Kuraaj (misgovernance).

She said that Rajasthan ranks at the fifth position across the country in cases related to crime against women from 2014-16, fifth in dowry deaths and fourth in number of rape cases. “In the recent constable recruitments, the government made a new dress code for women applicants where their sleeves were shortened causing embarrassment. The act is condemnable and shows insensitivity of the government,” Chaturvedi said.

Addressing the media at state party office, she questioned where the chief minister is ready to take the responsibility of crimes and atrocities against women, that the government failed to provide security to women, in spite the chief minister being a woman.

Chaturvedi pointed at the impasse showing that over 100 debt ridden farmers committed suicide, over 350 temples were demolished in the name of metro, thousands of bovine died because of fodder and water shortage, rampant corruption and the dictatorial steps – shutting down of internet facilities during constable recruitment that affected banking, health and other digital services. “Will the chief minister take the responsibility of failing to empower women and of farmer suicide, corruption and unemployment,” she said.

Chaturvedi was here in city for shortlisting and selecting a new team of party’s spokesperson and panellist in view of the assembly elections later this year. “Through the talent hunt programme, the party had initiated the process to select spokespersons that have been associated with Congress for years and think that they can represent the party in media effectively,” she said.

She said the shortlisted candidates have been interviewed and soon a final list will be released.
