Police said trouble broke out at Sonachura area last night when the villagers objected to the setting up of a police camp.

The police used batons to disperse the angry villagers.

The villagers alleged that a police camp in the area could lead to a re-run of events which had led to disturbances in Nandigram since last year.

Police patrolling was continuing on Thursday and no untoward incident had been reported.

Sixty policemen and RAF personnel were doing the rounds at Nandigram, where stray incidents were still taking place after the Panchayat elections in May in which the CPI(M) got a drubbing at the hands of Trinamool Congress.
