Airport sources said of the 171 passengers in the Kolkata-Hyderabad-Chennai flight, one person was attended to by doctors as he complained of pain in his leg after the Boeing landed safely.

The Spice Jet plane took off from the airport in the early morning for Chennai via Hyderabad but the pilot noticed sudden drop of air pressure in the crew's cabin and decided to head back to Kolkata, the sources said.

The Airport Authorities of India (AAI) officials gave the pilot permission for emergency landing after taking the standard precautionary measures, the sources said, adding the aircraft was grounded for examination by aviation engineers.

The plane can again take off after getting clearance from officials of the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The incident took place close on the heels of the emergency landing of two planes within a gap of just nine minutes at the airport on Wednesday.

While one of the two was an Air Deccan flight on Kolkata-Guwahati route, with 41 passengers on board, a Mumbai-Kolkata Air Sahara flight, with 116 on board, also sought permission within nine minutes for emergency landing on the same day. Both landings had been caused due to technical reasons.
