Train services on the Kharagpur Tatanagar section of the South Eastern Railway were disrupted for over three hours on Thursday after a group of people stopped a goods train between Khatkura and Jhargram by placing a red banner on the tracks.
SER sources said that around 4.10 pm, a group of about 100 people stopped a goods train coming from Kharagpur by placing a red banner on the tracks.
After the train driver reported the matter to the control room, traffic in the section was brought to a halt as a precautionary measure since the area was in the Maoist belt, they said.
The Howrah Mumbai Gitanjali Express, the Tilagarh Howrah Ispat Express, the Howrah Ranchi Intercity Express, Shalimar LTT Express, Howrah Tata Steel Express, Barbil Howrah Jansatabdi Express were among eight trains detained at various stations.
A team of CRPF, RPF and GRP was sent to the spot from Kharagpur for a security check. After travelling to Jhargram by a special train, the team went up to Khatkura on foot, examining the track.
The tracks were cleared around 7:50 pm after nothing was found, the sources said.
Police said some posters by the Nari Ijjat Bacchao Committee, the newly launched women's wing of the PCPA, demanding withdrawal of the joint forces from Jungle mahal were found at the spot.
