Take care on New Years

Hindustan Times | By, New Delhi

Every year, these are the rather sad scenes we get to witness outside clubs and pubs in town after New Year revelries. Party responsibly and stay safe this time.

We know the party doesn’t get bigger than this and we’re all for you having a great time, but here’s a word of caution. Like every year, we want you to take a good look at some of these scenes captured by our shutterbugs after New Year’s Eve parties outside leading Delhi clubs.

We were disappointed to see how young people lay drunk and unconscious, while others got into fights or misbehaved under the influence of alcohol.

While 15,000 cops, in addition to the existing patrol force, have been deployed to keep the city’s streets safe tonight, make sure you don’t end up cutting a sorry picture for yourself, please, especially because experts say post-party embarrassment can kill the fun of starting the New Year on a good note.

There are, of course, some who aren’t drinking today due to religious reasons. “It’s a Tuesday so no daaru and non-veg, and so no fear of getting too drunk!” says Kamal Sharma, 27. Anyway, keep our safety guide handy!

Safety tips
Do not accept drinks from strangers. To ensure that your drink is not spiked, get it yourself from the bartender and don’t leave it unattended
Try and go out in a large group of close friends
Let someone at home know where you are going to party, and keep them updated about your movements
Keep emergency numbers on your speed dial
Assign someone who isn’t drinking to drive you home
Too much alcohol can make you a sorry sight. Have only as much as you can handle
You can be of little help to your friends if you’ve had too much to drink yourself. Remember, a fun party is about much more than just drinks
