Reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates, Bardhaman Purba is one of the 42 parliamentary constituencies in West Bengal’s Bankura district.
Sunil Kumar Mondol of the Trinamool Congress defeated Ishwar Chandra Das of the Communist Party of India(Marxist) from Bardhaman Purba, the Left bastion, in the 2014 Lok Sabha election. Mondal will once again contest from the Bardhaman Purba seat in the Lok Sabha election 2019.
Anup Kumar of the CPI(M) had held the Lok Sabha seat number 38 till 2009, which has a Hindu population of more than 84%.
