Lok Sabha elections 2019: Navneet Kaur may not be theNCP candidate from Amravati
Kaur, former NCP leader, switched sides after last state Assembly elections. Her husband declared support to the Devendra Fadnavis-led government. She was also keen to get a BJP ticket for the seat this time.
Former Telugu actor Navneet Kaur may not contest as Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate from Amravati Lok Sabha constituency this time. Her husband and independent MLA said NCP has agreed to support Navneet and she will be contesting the elections as a candidate from Yuva Swabhimani Party (YSP), an outfit formed by him. The NCP denied any such decision. However, party insiders said they are deliberating exchanging the seat for Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg with Congress.
Kaur, a former NCP leader, was in contact with senior party leaders ahead of the polls. But her husband has been insisting on allowing her to contest as YSP candidate, said a senior NCP leader. “We have decided that Navneet will be contesting as YSP candidate. NCP has also agreed to declare support to her. We will work as alliance partner of Congress and NCP for Lok Sabha and Assembly elections,” Rana said.

But after both saffron parties — BJP and Sena — declared alliance, it was confirmed she would not be able to get a ticket from BJP.
Shiv Sena’s Anandrao Adsul is a four-term Member of Parliament (MP) from Amravati constituency. Kaur as NCP candidate lost to Adsul by over 1.37 lakh votes. “There was a proposal from them (Navneet-Rana) over allowing her to contest the polls as YSP candidate, but the party has not taken any such decision yet,” said NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik.
Former Congress leader Narayan Rane’s son Nilesh is contesting from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg as Maharashtra Swabhimani Paksha (MSP) candidate and has sought support from NCP. As the seat is with Congress as per the seat-sharing formula between allies Congress and NCP, both parties are also discussing a possible exchange, said another NCP leader. Exchange of seats is possible but it depends upon a win-win situation for both sides (Congress-NCP),” said Ashok Chavan, state Congress president.
