After the poll bugle blown by the election commission on Sunday, information technology (IT) cells of major political parties have started their preparations for the Lok Sabha election campaigning on social media.

Pulling up their socks for the same, the Uttarakhand Congress has decided to hire a cartoonist and two designers to create content for the social media.

Voting for all the five Lok Sabha constituencies in the state will be held on May 11.

“We have hired one cartoonist and two designers for creating content to be used in the election campaign on social media platforms. They will start their work in the next three to four days,” Amarjeet Singh, president of state Congress IT cell said at party state headquarters here.

“At present, the cell has a team of about 450 people across all the districts in the state which is soon going to be increased.”

“Apart from the existing team-members, there are at least 6,100 people who have shown interest to join the cell voluntarily to work for social media campaigning. Also, we would have a meeting on Tuesday comprising about 5o members representing different units in all the districts, to frame the strategy for polls,” he said adding that they would also try to meet national president Rahul Gandhi on his visit on March 16.

Once the strategy is chalked out, the Congress IT cell plans to roll out one cartoon each day on its social media platforms, especially Twitter.

“The cartoons would be designed as per the election strategy and content suggested by the top leaders. They would then be circulated on all the social media platforms, including the newly created party Facebook pages and Twitter handles of all the five constituencies. As usual the cell would work 24x7, leaving no stones unturned,” he said.

Plan already in place: BJP

While the Congress is still in process to frame the strategy for its social media campaign, the BJP seems to be one step ahead of it.

“Our preparations were already in place since the past one year after the 2017 state assembly elections itself. The Congress has made the FB pages and Twitter handles of all the five seats now, but we already have them from district-level to mandal-level formed years ago,” said Bhuvan Joshi, BJP state IT cell in-charge.

“We already have a team of about 900 members in the state who are already in action mode. We just need to speed up the efforts as its very less time left for the polls. Our party is a proven pioneer in the social media campaigning unlike others,” he said.
