Politicians in Bihar rush to astrologers, fortune tellers ahead of Lok Sabha Elections 2019
“Most of my clients these days are politicians who want things to go in their favour in the coming elections and for that they request us to perform rituals that will eventually help them in fulfilling their poll dreams,” said Baidyanath Jha Shastri, a Patna based astrologer.
Political pundits and analysts may have remained in high demand over the last few weeks, but of late, it is the astrologers and soothsayers who have replaced them as the most sought after people during the election months.
Though the elections dates have been announced, utter confusion and unpredictability prevails over the stitching of alliances that may mar the poll prospects and dreams of several potential candidates. In order to scrape through these troubled times and realise their dreams of become MPs, scores of aspirants seeking a berth in the parliament are rushing to astrologers, soothsayers and fortune tellers with requests to study the movement of their stars and read their fortunes.
The astrologers claim they review the solar and lunar phases of their clients and calculate their positive and negative impacts before forecasting the outcome of their efforts in the upcoming elections .
In the political circles these days, the talks and discussions mostly revolve around tickets to aspirants, party symbols, alliances and probable losers and winners. Sitting MPs want to know whether things may be in their favour and will help them retain the constituency of their choice or will they have to compromise by trying luck in new constituencies and with new electorates.

He said, the most relevant and apt ritual in these situations is the Navagrah Paath, the chanting of Mantras related to nine planets. “But this is not required in every case. Considering the need and requirement, people often go for the Paath to please maximum two to three planets, especially the sun and Jupiter. But these rituals take at least a weeks time to complete as they are performed through chanting of special hymns, which is highly invigorating and thought provoking,” Shastri said.
The astrologer went on to inform that some clients prefer Bagalamukhi ritual as it is considered to be one of the most scared and powerful ritual delivering desirable results. Akshay Tiwari, a teacher at the reputed Shukla Yajurveda , a city based Ved Vidyalay, said Bagalamukhi is done mainly to defeat the rivals and get the things shaped up in one’s favour. “It’s a 10-day long ritual and a very expensive one at that. Puja materials are needed in huge amounts,” he said.
On some prominent politicians who are their clients and are regular these days, the astrologers declined to reveal their names “We cannot disclose the names as its a matter of trust between my client and me,” he said. Shastri said, astrology is a science and astrologers try to give a clear picture on the basis of calculation of the planetary movements of the clients.
