With assets worth Rs 77.7 crore, BJP’s Jayant Sinha richest fifth phase candidate in Jharkhand
Of the 61 contestants in Jharkhand’s four constituencies which vote in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 6, 14 are crorepati candidates. Thirteen candidates face criminal charges and nine of them face serious criminal cases, ADR analysis says.
Jayant Sinha, BJP’s nominee from Hazaribag, is the third richest candidate in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha polls to be held on May 6, according to Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) analysis. There are 674 candidates across 51 constituencies in the country going to polls on May 6.
Sinha, in his self-sworn affidavit to the election commission, has declared his total assets worth Rs 77.07 crore, which makes him Jharkhand’s richest candidate. In term of liabilities, he is also in the third position with Rs 19.32 crore.
Jharkhand’s four constituencies – Koderma, Ranchi, Khunti (ST) and Hazaribag – will vote on May 6.
Poonam Shatrughan Sinha, wife of actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, is the richest candidate in the country’s fifth phase polls with total assets of Rs 193.54 crore. Samajwadi Party candidate, Sinha is contesting the polls from Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow seat. Vinay Kumar Mishra, a Pragatishil Samajwadi Party (Lohia) candidate from Sitapur constituency in UP, is the second richest person in the phase, according to ADR report.

All four BJP candidates - Jayant Sinha from Hazaribag, Sanjay Seth from Ranchi, Arjun Munda from Khunti and Annapurna Devi from Koderma - are crorepati candidates, says ADR report.
The grand alliance, a group of four parties-Congress, JMM, JVM-P and RJD – has three crorepati candidates namely Gopal Prasad Sahu from Hazaribag, Subodh Kant Sahay from Ranchi and Babulal Marandi from Koderma.
Ranchi has maximum five crorepati candidates out of 20 candidates contesting the polls, while Hazaribag has total four crorepati candidates out of 16 candidates.
In the fifth phase, no BJP candidate has declared criminal cases against them, while two grand alliance candidates have declared criminal charges. JVM-P’s Babulal Marandi, who is contesting from Koderma seat as grand alliance candidate, has declared the maximum 10 cases against him, while the Congress’ Subodh Kant Sahay declared one case against him.
Of four constituencies, Koderma and Hazaribag have maximum five candidates each facing criminal charges.
