Akhilesh likely to vacate government bungalow before June 3

Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Singh Yadav is likely to vacate the government bungalow on 4, Vikramaditya Marg before June 3 after a government notice to do so, a party leader familiar with the matter said.
The estate department on May 18 had served notices to six former chief ministers, including Akhilesh Yadav following a Supreme Court order that former chief ministers could not retain official residences after they demit office.
The court had also struck down an amendment in UP’s legislation which allowed former chief ministers to continue living in government houses. The formers CMs were asked to vacate the bungalows within 15 days and hand them over to the estate department.
Akhilesh had moved the estate department for permission to live in the bungalow for two more years on security grounds. He said time would be needed to move into a private accommodation.
Later, Akhilesh and his father former CM Mulayam Singh Yadav had moved a petition in the Supreme Court on Monday, asking for “appropriate time” to vacate official residences allotted to them by the state government.
Samajwadi Party spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said though the SP chief had moved a petition in the Supreme Court, the 15-day deadline set by the estate department would expire on June 3.
“He will vacate the bungalow before the deadline and move to a private accommodation,” he said.
On Wednesday, another former chief minister and Bahujan Samajwadi Party chief Mayawati vacated a bungalow in Lucknow and moved into another bungalow which also serves as a memorial to BSP founder Kanshiram which the estate department had sent notice to her to vacate.
