A deputy chief medical officer of Barabanki was arrested here on Sunday for molesting his 16-year-old daughter and severely whipping his wife.
The incident occurred in Vibhuti Khand police station area.
The man, it is said, not only thrashed his wife but also trained his licensed revolver on her, threatening to kill her, when she tried to foil his attempt to molest their daughter .
The accused, Dr Pradeep Kumar, 45, is posted at the chief medical officer’s (CMO) office in Barabanki.
He and his family, including his wife and four children (two sons and two daughters), stay here in Vibhuti Khand.
“The incident came to light when his wife and children dialled the police control-room number, seeking protection for themselves.
They had locked themselves inside a room when the doctor chased them with a loaded revolver.
They were brought out when SO Vibhuti Khand and other cops reached the spot,” said SSP J Ravinder Goud.
His wife told the cops that the accused called his daughter, a Class 11 student, inside a room and began to molest her. As the daughter started crying, the mother tried to stop her husband and in anger, he started beating her.
She said, “He often used to do obscene acts with me in front of our children but I ignored such things. However, I could not control myself when he attempted to molest his own daughter”.
She said the doctor beat her with a whip made of 10mm air conditioner cable wire when she opposed his act.
She said he even took out his revolver and threatened to shoot her when she warned him that she would inform the police if he ever tried to molest their daughter again.
Fearing for their lives, she and the children locked themselves inside a room and then called the police for help.
SO Vibhuti Khand Pankaj Singh said the doctor had been arrested after registering an FIR of molestation, criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt, on the complaint of his daughter.
He said Barabanki CMO DR Singh had also been informed about the incident and a written report would be sent to initiate departmental action against the doctor.
