During the last three months, the premier medical institute has recruited 32 specialists raising its strength of doctors from 140 to 172.

Among the top-notch experts who have joined the PGI include Dr Namrata Mahindra (interventional radiology expert who served in Apollo and Sahara), Dr Vivek Singh (radiology expert who was working with Sahara), Dr DN Upadhaya (plastic surgeon who was with Vivekananda Hospital), Dr Gaurav Pandey (hepatologist who was working with Amrita Institute) and Dr Supriya Sharma (liver transplant surgeon from Medanta).

SGPGI director Prof RK Sharma said, “The reverse brain drain has been possible because of the good image of the institute and conducive atmosphere for research over here.”

Doctors from private hospitals joining PGI in large numbers indicates a change in the recruitment policy and working conditions of the premier institute.
