Tensions rise after idols found vandalised in Muzaffarnagar temple

Police said they have detained a youth who allegedly broke the idols of Lord Shiva and Parvati in an inebriated state in Muzaffarnagar’s Khatoli town.

The idols of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati were allegedly broken by a youth in an inebriated state in Muzaffarnagar’s Khatoli town, police said on Wednesday.

The incident was reported on Tuesday evening when some locals visited the Shiva temple in Devidas locality and saw the vandalised idols, said circle officer Rajiv Kumar Singh.

As news spread, locals gathered outside the temple and demanded immediate action. Police have detained a youth and are interrogating him.

Security has been tightened in the neighbourhood and extra police personnel have been deployed.
