An undertrial gave six Delhi Police cops the slip after drugging them at the Charbagh railway station on Thursday night.
The Government Railway Police ( GRP ) said that Saurabh Sharma - a kidnapping accused booked under the Gangster Act - escaped from custody after he and the cops had food at a nearby dhaba before boarding a train at the Lucknow junction of North Eastern Railway (NER). The accused had laced the Delhi cops’ food with some intoxicant.
Saurabh, a resident of Mohanlalganj in Lucknow, was booked in a case in 2003, said police.
“Probably the cops, including one assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and five constables, had food at a dhaba in the evening. Saurabh, who had some drugging cases against him, mixed something in the food, which made all the cops unconscious, said Irshad Tyagi, a GRP cop. He was being escorted back to Delhi the policemen after an appearance before a court in the state capital, added Tyagi.
After having the food, the cops started vomiting and they rushed to the rest room at the station for help. One of the policemen informed local cops through a PCO in the vicinity.
As the six cops reached the rest room on the first floor of the station building, they fell unconscious before the GRP cops could reach the spot. All of them were yet to regain senses till late midnight and were under treatment at the Balrampur Hospital.
“Only a constable Mahendra was conscious and could narrate the incident. He said he had no idea about the undertrial,” said Tyagi. Given the fact that the cops were unconscious, the Lucknow GRP was not able to extract too many details.
