While four workers were referred to the SRN Hospital in Allahabad, the others were treated at a nearby medical institution. A private agency was later brought in to perform maintenance work on the ammonia pipeline, said IFFCO workers.
“The gas leaked while some workers were opening the valve of the pipe around 4 pm. There was large scale panic, and nine workers fainted,” a worker said on the condition of anonymity.
IFFCO public relations officer Vishwajeet Srivastava said the situation was now under control. “The workers are recovering, and they will soon be discharged from the hospital,” he added.
