One man was killed and two others were grievously injured in the eastern suburb of Mulund on Tuesday afternoon after a huge tree branch fell on the auto-rickshaw they were in.
This makes it the third tree collapse death in the city this monsoon.
The incident took place at Guru Govind Singh Road in Mulund Colony. The branch of a peepal tree, located on the road, collapsed on the auto-rickshaw, killing the male passenger, identified as Ravi Shah, 31, sitting inside it on the spot. The auto driver, Chandrabhan Gupta, 40, is in a critical condition and is being treated at Sion hospital, while the other passenger, the deceased’s wife Urvi Shah, 27, has been admitted in Mulund’s Agarwal hospital with serious head injury.
“The tree was located on a public road and it was a huge branch that resulted in the death and serious injuries,” said T-ward’s assistant municipal commissioner Kishor Gandhi.
More details are awaited.
On June 24, a senior citizen was killed and four others suffered injuries after heavy rain led to a tree fall in Fashion Street in south Mumbai.
