A 22-year-old man from Versova died after he crashed his Volkswagen car into a divider on a flyover in Santacruz early on Thursday, police said.
According to the police, Azim Munshi was speeding and the accident happened as he was trying to overtake another car. The accident took place around 2.45 am on the northbound stretch of the Vakola flyover on the Western Express Highway, police said. Munshi used to work in a call centre. He was out with his friends and they were heading towards his home in Versova.
According to the police, Munshi was alone in the car while his friends in another car were trailing him. A police officer said, “His blood samples have been taken to see if it as a case of drink driving. But he was speeding and driving at least at 100 kmph. He tried to overtake another car when he lost control over the wheels and crashed into the divider.” The official added, “We reached the spot and along with his friends, rushed him to nearby VN Desai hospital. He was declared dead before admission. We have registered a case of accidental death. No other vehicle is involved in the accident. We are probing the case further. His medical report is awaited.”
