The Bandra police on Monday arrested 24-year-old Adnan Shaikh for allegedly performing stunts on his bike at Bandra Reclamation.
According to sources in the police, the arrest is over a video, circulating on social media, which is from 2017.
It was also uploaded on a video-sharing app.
“A first-information report (FIR) was registered by the Bandra traffic division after they saw the video. Sub-inspector Bhimsen Gaikwad, who had earlier tracked a similar offender in November, was told to track Shaikh,” said a senior police officer.
In November, Gaikwad, along with his team, tracked an assistant director, Nadeem Shah, who used do similar stunts.
Police at that time said the videos were setting a wrong precedent for youngsters.
Gaikwad managed to trace Shaikh to his home in Dharavi, from where another police officer helped Gaikwad nab Shaikh.
According to the police, Shaikh was unaware that an FIR had been registered against him. A police source revealed that during interrogation, Shaikh told the police that the current video was circulated after he denied an interview to a local reporter.
A case under section 279(punishment for rash driving) and 336(punishment for act of endangering life and personal safety of others) has been registered at the Bandra police station.
