A 46-year-old man from Versova was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl from his neighbourhood after luring her to his house with chocolates on Friday.

Police said the teenager was playing outside her house with her friends when the accused, an auto rickshaw driver, lured her with chocolates. After taking her to his house, he raped her. Police said the girl had gone with the accused as she knew him.

After the incident, the accused threatened to kill the teenager if she informed anyone about the incident.

Meanwhile, the survivor’s parents began searching for her, as she was nowhere to be found. When she returned home, she narrated her ordeal to them. They filed a complaint with the Versova police the same evening.

The police filed a first information report (FIR) in the case under sections 376 (rape), 354A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault), 10 (aggravated sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harassment of child) of the POCSO Act.

Senior inspector of Versova police station, Ravindra Badgujar, confirmed the arrest.

The accused was produced before a sessions court and remanded in police custody till May 22
