47-yr-old used fake govt ties to dupe people, arrested
He allegedly lured people after convincing them that he had influence in departments of the central government, said an official.
The Anti-Extortion cell of Mumbai crime branch arrested a 47-year-old man, Milind Lawate, for cheating several people in Mumbai, Delhi and Pune under the pretext of providing financial help through his alleged influence in the central government.

“In the case of duping a Borivli-based developer, the police team laid a trap and arrested Lawate from the Dindoshi area on Monday. He was produced before a metropolitan magistrate court which remanded him to police custody till June 25,” said deputy commissioner of police Dilip Sawant of the crime branch.
He allegedly lured people after convincing them that he had influence in departments of the central government, said an official. “During the inquiry, it was also learnt that Lawate is wanted in a cheating case in Delhi. We have been inquiring about cases registered against him in Mumbai and other cities,” said Sawant.
