A 16-year-old boy from Dombivli committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of his apartment building on Monday. According to reports, Himanshu Telang was fed up of his father physically abusing him and his mother, and was driven to take the drastic step because of the torture.
On Monday, Himanshu, a resident of Amrut Shrushti building at Sunil Nagar in Dombivli had been beaten up and abused by his father Umesh Telang, 42, a small-time businessman. Umesh was allegedly also being violent with the boy’s mother, Kavita, 39.
Fed up of the abuse, Himanshu ran up to the sixth floor of the apartment building and jumped off. Neighbours who witnessed the incident rushed to the spot and alerted Umesh’s family who then took the boy to the hospital.
“He suffered major internal injuries and was declared dead, after which his mother lodged a complaint against her husband and her in-laws,” said a police officer from Dombivli police station. Umesh has been arrested and is in police custody.
“We checked with the neighbours and the boy’s friends who told us that he was under a lot of tension because of his father beating his mother. When he attempted to stop his father, he too would get beaten and abused,” V Pawar, senior police inspector said. “We also came to know that often, Himanshu would be very badly tortured.”
After conducting a post-mortem, the body was handed over to family members.
