Another aide of DK Rao arrested in Mumbai in connection with ₹50-lakh extortion case

The anti-extortion cell of the Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested another aide of gangster DK Rao in connection with a Rs50-lakh extortion case.

Rao is accused of extorting Rs50 lakh from a consultant.
Anil Patil was arrested in the afternoon when he approached the special MCOCA court to surrender. He would be produced before the court on Wednesday.
As per the prosecution, after coming out of jail in July 2016, Rao allegedly threatened the consultant and demanded Rs50 lakh from him and asked to him leave a slum redevelopment project.
During a meeting held in January 2014 between the consultant, builders and Rao, Patil had allegedly called gangster Chhota Rajan at the behest of Rao. Rajan had demanded Rs10 crore from the builders and the consultant.
The anti-extortion cell said Patil has been booked for being part of an organised syndicate, and aiding and abetting the extortion.
According to the police, a developer approached a consultant in 2013 to clear an SRA project at Antop Hill with around 1,000 tenants. Rao’s aides allegedly asked the consultant to abstain from the project and demanded Rs50 lakh from him.
Following the complaint, Rao was arrested on October 11, 2017, followed by a real estate agent.
