A 31-year-old civil engineer died in a road mishap after he came under the rear wheel of a BEST bus in Dadar (East) on Saturday morning. The Bhoiwada police have registered an accidental death case and are investigating the case.

According to the police, the victim, who has been identified as Azharuddin Talib Khan, 31, was a resident of Govandi. Officials said that the incident took place between 10:35am and 11am near Shanti Café on Dr BA Road, when Khan was heading to his office in Mahalaxmi on his motorcycle.

“Khan was trying to overtake a BEST bus travelling from Sion to Ballard Pier. While he was overtaking, he lost balance of his bike. The motorcycle skid and Khan slipped and fell before getting crushed under the rear wheel of the bus,” said an officer from the Bhoiwada police station.

He was taken to KEM Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead at around 11:30am on Saturday. The Bhoiwada police have registered an accidental death case and have handed over the body to the family members of the deceased. The police questioned a few witnesses at the spot who confirmed that Khan was at fault for overtaking the bus from the wrong side.

“We are further investigating the matter,” said sub-inspector Anil Mahajan.
