BJP corporator from Dombivli, Mahesh Patil, and two of his accomplices were arrested by Thane Anti Extortion Cell on Friday for planning to kill a fellow corporator from Dombivli.

Mahesh Patil was on the run from the cops for the past one month along with his two aides- Sujit Nalavade and Vijay Bakade.

A senior police officer confirmed the development and said that the trio were taken in to custody from Kalyan court premises, and will be produced in court tomorrow.

Kunal Patil and Mahesh Patil, both corporators in Kalyan-Domvivli Municipal Corporation, have a long history of rivalry. In early December, Kunal filed a case, saying he had been getting threat calls from an unknown number.

Pradeep Sharma, senior police inspector of AEC, said, “Kunal Patil had registered a case after he received a threatening phone call last month. A few weeks ago, four people were arrested by the Ganeshpuri police in Bhiwandi. They said that they had been paid Rs50 lakh to kill Kunal Patil.”

On December 21, Kailash Godvinde, 38, Dilip Kanojiya, 26, Raju Shetty, 28, Kasim Ansari, 20, and Vijay Bembhansi,46, were arrested for robbery. They later confessed that they were paid to kill the independent corporator.

Two other accused — Sachin Dhondghe, 36, and Alaudin Shaikh, 34 — were arrested two weeks ago.
