1993 Mumbai serial blast convict, Mustafa Ahmad Umar Dossa, who died of cardiac arrest at the JJ Hospital on Wednesday, was laid to rest at the Bada Qabrastan early on Thursday morning amid tight security.

Following 14 years of trial, Dossa, 57, a key conspirator in the terrorist carnage, was pronounced guilty by the designated TADA court a fortnight ago. On Tuesday, the CBI prosecutor sought death penalty for Dossa during arguments to decide the quantum of punishment for convicts. Dossa was present in the courtroom.

Early on Wednesday morning, he was shifted to the JJ Hospital with high fever. Hospital officials said his condition deteriorated owing to uncontrolled diabetic and hypertension.

The body was handed over to his family members late in the evening. It was first taken to the Dossas’ family mansion, Aqdas Apartments in Agripada, before being taken to Bada Qabrastan at Charni Road.

Dossa is survived by two wives, three sons and two daughters. Family sources said Mustafa was buried next to his father’s grave.

Meanwhile, police deployment was made all along the roads from Dossa’s residence to the burial ground. Even during his burial, only family members were allowed inside the Qabrastan to perform the last rites.
