Officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) told HT on Monday that one of the cockpit selfies appeared to have been taken when the aircraft was mid-air. “This is a serious violation. We are collecting more evidence and suitable action would be taken soon,” the official said.

“We have also told the airline management to discourage such activities,” added the official.

On April 28, HT had reported that six pilots from the budget airline were under fire for taking selfies with family members and colleagues inside cockpits.

An Indigo Airlines spokesperson confirmed that “inflight cases” were being investigated by the regulator. “We have learned that our flight crew has been probed against a case of cockpit access violation by the regulator. As per the Aeronautical Information Circular 7 (2004) - it does not specifically bar bonafide passengers to take pictures inside the aircraft. In the said cases, the passengers accessed the flight deck at the end of the flight with the permission of the flight crew -which is in line with the IndiGo operations manual. The IndiGo operations manual is an approved document by the DGCA,” the spokesperson said.
