Janmashtami celebrations begin in Western suburbs

Festive wishes and greetings on banners and boardings were held high since midnight.

After all the spectacle and drama, Dahi handi mandals welcomed Janmashtami with fervour and gusto.

Festive wishes and greetings on banners and boardings were held high since midnight. Some govinda mandals were seen practising in the suburbs till late night to gear up for the main event. Local small dahi handi mandals in Borivali had started breaking handis immediately after midnight.

Mumbai City Football Club, in association with Shiv Sena’s youth wing Yuva Sena, has organised the dahi handi event in Andheri Sports Complex wherein actor Ranbir Kapoor and Aditya Thackeray, along with the BMC Standing Committee Chairman, Yashodhar Phanse, are expected to share the stage. The total prize money offered is to the tune of Rs. 1.21 lakh for male mandals and Rs. 1.01lakh for women mandals.
