A 26-year-old musician driving his scooter without a helmet succumbed to head injuries, while the pillion rider sustained injuries, after a speeding BEST bus crashed into them in Sakinaka on Wednesday morning. The bus was on its way to Chandivali from Ghatkopar when the accident took place.
Locals smashed the windshields of three BEST buses and assaulted the driver, Tanaji Khumbar, 46.
The Sakinaka police ascertained that the musician, Pravin Pujari, would have been alive had he been wearing a helmet. The pillion rider has been identified as Sumit Chandanshive, 17. The scooter has only a few scratches.
The Sakinaka police have booked Khumbar in a case of causing death by negligence under Indian Penal Code (IPC) 304 A.
The police have also filed a complaint against 12 to 15 locals who rioted and damaged the buses.
