A 37-year-old woman from Chembur was attacked by her husband and her sister a few days after she caught them together in bed and confronted them. The RCF police arrested Kaiser Khan, 40, on Tuesday.

Police inspector Milind Kurde from RCF police station said the complainant Shahjahan and the accused have a 23-year-old son.

The incident took place on January 29.

“Khan married his sister-in-law Nuri last year after she got divorced from her husband,” Kurde said. On December 6, the victim learnt that her husband and her sister had got married, but the duo denied it when she confronted them.

However, she caught the two together in bed on January 20, after which she left her Chembur house and moved to her mother’s home in Mahul, Kurde said.

On January 29, Khan and Nuri visited her and asked her to come back and live with them. The meeting led to a heated argument that ended with the couple attacking her and fleeing. The complainant was rushed to Shiv hospital in Chembur, after which the RCF police were informed.

“She had a severe injury on her head, which required 12 stitches, as well as injuries on her body,” Kurde said. “On the basis of the victim’s complaint, we registered a case against the two, but they had disappeared. We even checked their Bhiwandi house.”

Days later, the police received a tip-off that Khan had come to Chembur, so they laid a trap and arrested him on Tuesday. Kurde said Nuri is still absconding, and that they are trying to locate her.

The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

He was produced in court and was released on bail on Wednesday.
