Man held for assaulting traffic police inspector

A 22-year-old was arrested after he assaulted a traffic police inspector who asked him to stop talking on the phone.
The incident took place in Bhiwandi on Tuesday evening.
The accused has been identified as Kewal Harsih Soni,22, a resident of Narpoli area in Bhiwandi. He works at a mobile shop.
According to the complaint filed by the victim, police inspector Ganpatrao Ghatge, 56, a resident of Wagle Estate in Thane, was on duty at Dhamankar naka in Bhiwandi. Around 7.30pm, Soni was riding by on his two wheeler and was talking on the phone. The inspector spotted him and asked him to pay a fine. An argument started and Soni started abusing the officer.
Navnath Dongre, a police constable from Bhoiwada police station, said, “After he started abusing Ghatge, the officer asked him not to do so. He was angry about paying the fine. He started intervening in Ghatge’s work as he was issuing receipts to other drivers who broke road rules.”
It was also found that Soni was in rush as he had to deliver a mobile phone to a customer.
Soni pushed Ghatge and his other staff and abused them. The beat marshal was called up and Soni was arrested later.
Soni was booked under Section 353(Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code and was produced in court. He was later remanded in police custody.
