Mumbai varsity forms task force to help students pursuing higher education, jobs

Decision taken following a sudden rise in number of students approaching the varsity’s help desk at Kalina campus on Monday

The University of Mumbai (MU) set up a task force to expedite the results of students seeking admission to national and international universities. A member of the task force, which consists of four teachers and one official, said the team will synchronise the process of issuing results of such students.

The decision was taken following a sudden rise in number of students approaching the varsity’s help desk at Kalina campus on Monday and seeking help while applying for universities other than MU. The desk was set up to help the students who wanted their results urgently to apply for higher education and job opportunities.

“On Monday, we accepted applications from students. We will now categorise these students based on the organisations they want to join and the status of their answer papers’ assessment. Students whose papers have been assessed completely will get their results in a day or two,” the member said.

In case a student needs result urgently, the varsity sends a sealed statement of marks, known as ‘confidential results’, to the potential employer or educational institute where the student has applied. So far, the varsity has issued about 250 confidential results and has requested 200 universities to admit its students, said a source.

The acting vice-chancellor (V-C) Devanand Shinde, who took charge from V-C Sanjay Deshmukh after he was sent on a leave, said was leaving no stone unturned to ensure timely declaration of results.

“My aim is to declare results, without errors, at the earliest. I am taking feedbacks from the faculty members. I appealed them to work even on holidays. We have also approached colleges in remote places,” Shinde said.

He added that technical glitches were affecting the pace of assessment owing to which results were being delayed.

“We have resolved issues that were causing trouble while matching answer sheets with the students. The teachers are now able to download answer booklets much faster. Moreover, the time required to grant approval to teachers for evaluation has also been reduced,” said Shinde.
