Senior citizen suffers cardiac arrest while standing in bank queue, dies

The man complained of chest pain, went into cardiac arrest, and died instantly, said locals

A senior citizen who was standing in a queue at a bank in Bhayander (West) died of a massive cardiac arrest on Wednesday morning. The man, Deepak Shah, 60, had been going to the bank for the past three days to exchange demonetised notes, said his relatives.

Shah, who stayed with his family in Shripal Building, Devchand Nagar, Bhayander, went to the Bassein Catholic Co-operative Bank around 7.00am, hours before it opened. He complained of chest pain, went into cardiac arrest, and died instantly, said sources.Locals rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared dead before admission.

“My brother had been getting up early and going to the bank since Monday. He would return home depressed, owing to the huge crowds.He died on Wednesday morning,” said Rasik Shah, Deepak’s brother.

The Bhayander police have registered a case of accidental death and are awaiting the post-mortem report. Shah was cremated on Wednesday afternoon at the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation crematorium.
