A Thane student who expected to score 85% in the Class 10 SSC exam, but scored 65%, hanged herself at her home on Tuesday evening.

When the SSC results were declared on Tuesday, Komal Sanjay Pandekar, 16, found she had scored 65%.

“She left a suicide note in which she said she was expecting 85%, and as she did not score that high, she was committing suicide,”said RD Malekar, senior police inspector, Wagale Estate Police station. In the note, she also asked her parents to continue going to work everyday. She asked her father to stop drinking too much and wanted her younger sister to fulfil her dream of scoring 85% in the SSC exams, Malekar said.

The police said Pandekar’s family lives in a chawl in Sambhaji Nagar. Her mother works as a domestic help, while her father is a watchman. She has two sisters.Malekar said no one was at home when Pandekar hanged herself.

In another incident, a 16-year-old girl from Khar committed suicide after finding out that she did not pass the exam.
