Accha laafa pada’ (Good you got slapped) – tired of hearing these words, a 63-year-old man killed another who was bullying him, by smashing his face with a rock, in South Mumbai.
The Nagpada police arrested the accused Shehzad Shaikh alias Munna Mansuri last week for killing Anwar Yusuf Khan alias Anwar Hatela.
According to police, Khan and Shaikh were history sheeters.
Sanjay Baswat, senior police inspector of Nagpada police station said on January 10, they received a message that Khan had been found dead in Idgah Maidan, Nagpada.
“It was a blind case as there was no clue about the killer. Since Khan was a record criminal, it was difficult to find his killer,” said Baswat.
Baswat said that Shaikh had got slapped by another man over a plate of pav bhaji, a few months ago. Khan had been bullying him over it saying ‘Accha laafa pada’ (Good you got slapped) and then laughing aloud.
The police then prepared a sketch of the accused, who was still unidentified. They however only knew that the killer had many cases of robbery in Rajdhani and other express trains. The officers investigating the case searched the railway police files for pick-pocketers who were from Madhya Pradesh and nearly 60-years-old. The police then went to Jabalpur .
“We found that Shaikh had gone to Surat. However, we kept a watch,” said Baswat.
After a few days Shaikh called up his home and police nabbed him from a farm outside his village.
“I could not bear the noise of Khan’s laugh when he taunted and teased me,” said Shaikh in his statement. He further said that he was so irritated and angry that he killed Khan.
The police have arrested Shaikh on the charge of murder.
