India vs Brazil confirmed: Kolkata to host football blockbuster on October 3

It's official! Indian football fans will finally get the chance to watch one of the sport's biggest powerhouses on home soil. Five-time FIFA World Cup winners Brazil are set to play a friendly match against India at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on October 3.
The Indian football team's official social media handle confirmed the development on Wednesday, ending days of speculation. "A date for the history books," read the post on X, formerly Twitter, alongside the confirmed date of October 3.
ESPN Brasil was the first to report last week that the Brazil national team was exploring the possibility of adding India to its October FIFA international window schedule, with Kolkata emerging as the preferred venue just weeks after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to the report, discussions between the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and Indian organisers began during the recently concluded World Cup in the United States.
Brazil are already scheduled to tour Australia during the October window, where they will face the Socceroos on September 25 in Townsville and September 29 in Brisbane, before travelling to Kolkata for the clash against the Blue Tigers.
The fixtures are part of FIFA's new "Super FIFA Window"—an international period lasting up to 16 days that allows national teams to play as many as four matches, including both competitive fixtures and friendlies. ESPN Brasil also reported that the CBF is planning to organise more home friendlies next year, particularly in cities that are usually left off Brazil's international calendar.
Kolkata's selection is understood to have been influenced by the extraordinary support Brazil enjoyed in the city during the World Cup, with posters, murals and fan gatherings highlighting the Selecao's enduring popularity in one of Indian football's traditional strongholds.
Organising the fixture, however, is expected to be a major logistical challenge. The match comes less than a year after the chaos surrounding Lionel Messi's visit to the Yuva Bharati Krirangan, when unprecedented crowds exposed serious concerns over crowd management and security for marquee football events in India.
