TV journalist from Mumbai killed in Kurla road accident

Due to the speed at which the autos were travelling, both the vehicles overturned after the collision.

A journalist was killed in a road accident at Kurla on Thursday morning. He was travelling by autorickshaw to his residence in Kalwa at 1am, when another autorickshaw crashed into the vehicle near Baba Hospital, Kurla.

According to the police, he was travelling with a relative and had boarded the autorickshaw from Bandra. They added that due to the speed at which the autos were travelling, both the vehicles overturned after the collision.

The deceased, who has been identified as Prashant Tripathi, used to work for a television channel. Passers-by rushed Tripathi to the nearest hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. According to eye witnesses, the auto driver had fled the scene after the accident.

The police traced the driver, identified as Yasin Shaikh, through the number of his auto rickshaw. Shaikh was located in Nalasopara and was arrested on Thursday morning.

A police officer said that a case has been registered against Shaikh under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
