A week after a six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at the Thane civil hospital, a 24-year-old woman was molested by an unknown person on Thursday morning.
The woman, whose relative is admitted in the male ward of the hospital, was sleeping on the bench outside the ward.
Around 3.30am, an unknown person approached her and touched her inappropriately. She woke up with a start, but the accused managed to escape.
She then registered a complaint with the Thane Nagar police station.
“We have registered a case and are also in process of increasing security within the hospital premises,” said a police officer.
In the past as well, crimes have taken place within the hospital premises. A temporary security is deployed and after the situation is normalised, the security is withdrawn, he said.
“There is a police chowky within the hospital premises, but we want the hospital authorities to be more alert,” the police officer added.
Meanwhile, authorities said that they are conducting an inquiry. However, a hospital staff said there is never any outcome from the inquiry.“No strict measures are taken to reduce these incidents,” the hospital staff added.
Last week, a 52-year-old man who was a ward boy at the hospital was arrested for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl.
