The accused, Ahmed Shaikh, was traced and arrested from Solapur on Monday.

In April 2017, Shaikh created two fake accounts on Facebook – posing as Mayur Patil from Goa and Neelam Pawar – and sent the complainant friend requests. The woman, who is a Goregaon resident and works at a private firm, accepted both requests.

Posing as Patil, the accused told the complainant that he could get her a well-paying job in the city.

The two started conversing frequently. In May 2017, he said he was visiting the city and the two met at Haji Ali. During the meeting, he told her his real name.

He promised her a job and clicked a selfie with her. However, he then asked her for sexual favours, after which she immediately left.

He then began to harass her, and threatened to send the photo they had taken to her husband. Scared, the complainant deactivated her Facebook account.

Following this, the accused, posing as Neelam Pawar, befriended the complainant’s husband. The accused asked her husband why she had stopped using Facebook.

When the complainant’s husband told her about his conversation with ‘Neelam’, she realised that both the accounts had been created by Shaikh.

She told her husband everything and the two approached the police. A first information report (FIR) was registered in July 2017.
