MUMBAI: The Andheri police have arrested a 44-year-old man who allegedly cheated three different banks of an amount above Rs 3 crore by depositing his apartment documents as surety to all of them.

According to the Andheri police, the complainant is a woman working as a branch manager at a national bank in Andheri (East).
The accused, identified as Sameer Kishorechandra Trivedi, 44, is a resident of Wadala Truck Terminus (TT) in Central Mumbai and runs a small shop selling soft drinks and mineral water.
The FIR was registered in March this year under relevant sections of cheating and forgery of the Indian Penal Code.
Trivedi owned a nearly 1,000 square feet house in Wadala TT. He submitted the flat documents to the three banks and managed to get loans from all three — primarily because of improper verification on the part of the second and third one.
The first loan was Rs 80 lakh from a bank in Uran in 2011, where he submitted original documents of the flat. Then he took a credit facility loan of Rs 1.8 crore in 2014 from a bank in Andheri (East).
Here he submitted forged documents of his flat.
The amount registered in the FIR with the Andheri police is Rs 2.04 crore as it includes interest on the original amount.
The third loan, worth Rs 40 lakh, was taken from a bank in Kamote where the accused submitted forged flat documents again.
An FIR has already been registered with the Kamote police.
The Andheri police had earlier arrested Trivedi’s 42-year-old wife as the flat was registered under her name.
After being interrogated for 12 days, she was sent to judicial custody and continues to remain in a woman’s jail in Kalyan till date.
Trivedi was arrested on Saturday. He has been remanded to police custody till August 19.
Trivedi claims he doesn’t have the money and gave a huge chunk of about Rs 1.35 crore to a friend.
The friend, the police said, has a criminal record and is untraceable.
No recovery has been made so far and the Andheri police are trying to unearth the money chain.
