MUMBAI: The Mumbai police have registered 21 cases against govinda mandals for violating a Supreme Court order restricting the human pyramids to a height of 20 feet and banning minors from participating.

The highest number of cases was registered at Chembur police station (7). Four cases of violations were reported under the jurisdiction of the Kalachowkie police station. Three cases were reported at Kanjurmarg police station, two cases at Bhandup police station while one case each was reported at Kurla, NM Joshi Marg, Vikhroli, Shivaji Park and Ghatkopar police stations, confirmed Mumbai police spokesperson DCP Ashok Dudhe.

The Kalachowkie police have registered four cases against MNS party workers along with mandal presidents for violating height restrictions. The violation was reported at Shahid Bhagatsingh Maidan in Kalachowkie.

The dahi handi organiser and the chief of ‘Golden Krida Mandal’ at Ranade Road, Dadar, have been booked for violating guidelines. Organisers at Dadar were also booked for noise pollution.

Meanwhile, five truck drivers were booked for rash driving and endangering life and personal safety of others. The police said the truck drivers were carrying extra people on the truck during dahi handi celebrations, risking their safety.
