MUMBAI: A 25-year-old man committed suicide at his residence in Malad (East) on Sunday morning due to financial woes. Police said preliminary investigations indicated that the deceased, Anish Sharma, allegedly stabbed himself with a knife when he could not arrange for money for his sister’s wedding.

Sharma, who worked as delivery boy and was staying alone in a rented accommodation in Hanuman Nagar in Kurar Village, Malad (East), had fought with his wife over the phone as she was insisting that he return to their native place in Uttar Pradesh, said a police officer.
“We have informed Sharma’s parents in UP and they are on their way. We have been recording the neighbours’ and Sharma’s friends’ statements to know the exact reason behind the incident,” said senior inspector L Vhanmane of the Kurar police station.
Sharma was home around 9.30 pm on Saturday and the incident came to light around 12.30 am when the owner of the room, Deepa Bhatt, who lives in the adjacent house, found Sharma’s door open. “She found Sharma lying on the floor with a knife beside him and in a pool of blood,” said a police officer. Bhatt immediately alerted other neighbours and also informed the police control room.
