After observing the chaos in the previous admission rounds, the department is allowing students applying in the fifth admission round (from July 30 to August 2) to apply to colleges based on the cut-offs of the second round.

An automatic lock has been placed in the option forms, which blocks students from opting for colleges whose cut-offs are higher than their scores. The cut-offs are being considered on the basis of the second merit list, which will be higher than the fourth merit list.

Officials said the new rules are introduced to be fair to students applying in the special rounds. “If we had kept the fourth merit list cut-offs for the fifth round, even the low-scoring students would get admission in good colleges, while high scoring students in the special rounds will be left out,” said BB Chavan, deputy director of education. “The system is not accepting the forms of those who don’t follow these rules.”
