Commuters were inconvenienced and crowds grew on stations as Central Railway (CR) authorities cancelled 16 services and terminated six services at Kurla station.

Services resumed by 3pm after the maintenance staff took nearly two hours to untangle the OHE cable from the roof of the train.

“The entangled portion was straightened and sent to the car shed," said V Malegaonkar, chief public relation officer, CR.

While the maintenance staff was at work, the two trains behind the Khopoli-bound train were halted on the tracks and commuters forced to get off and walk on the tracks.

Meanwhile, trains headed towards Kalyan were diverted on the fast line between Matunga and Vidyavihar stations.

“I had to return to Kurla and catch a fast train to go to Thane,” said Suraj Nair, a marketing executive, who was waiting at Vidyavihar station.

Till late evening, all trains, especially Thane-bound trains, were delayed by 20 minutes on the slow line.

On Sunday, trains on the central line were running late because of maintenance work near Vidyavihar station.
