2,176 held for traffic offences day after final

After letting Mumbai have a run of the city’s roads on Saturday night after India’s historic World Cup win, the traffic police were back in action on Sunday nailing 2,176 people for various traffic violations.

After letting Mumbai have a run of the city’s roads on Saturday night after India’s historic World Cup win, the traffic police were back in action on Sunday nailing 2,176 people for various traffic violations.

Sources in the traffic police said that on Saturday almost the entire force was deployed in and around Wankhede stadium for security/traffic arrangements. Besides, the traffic police too had taken part in the celebrations.

On Sunday, however, the traffic police were on alert.

Additional commissioner of police, traffic, Brijesh Singh said on an average, the traffic police register more than 3,000 cases of traffic violations, of which around 100 are related to drunken driving.

Nevertheless, Sunday’s action added Rs 1.29 lakh to the traffic police coffers in terms of fines.
