Varuni Sasani, who is from Simla, was employed with a US-based firm in the city. Sasani, whose parents are doctors in Delhi, had come to the city four months ago, Kalachowkie police said.

“Sasani, who had gone to her friend’s 11th floor flat at Kinley Tower in Lalbaug, was standing in the balcony when she lost her balance and fell. We don’t suspect any foul play,” said ACP RB Poman (Kalachowkie division).

Poman said they suspected Sasani had consumed alcohol. “We will be investigating the incident from all angles,” Poman said.

According to the police, the incident took place around 1.30am when Sasani was at her friend Karan Gupta’s residence, Kalachowkie police said.

The two were chatting when Sasani, who was standing in the balcony and looking down, lost her balance and fell off the 11th floor, police said. Gupta rushed down and with the help of those present took Sasani to KEM hospital where she was declared dead.
