Sharma, a resident of Jai Hind Estate in Bhuleshwar, jumped from his fifth floor apartment on Wednesday afternoon while his sister watched helplessly.

“He told his sister to take care of their parents and family. He also said that his time had come and ran to the balcony. The sister ran behind him but couldn’t stop him,” said sub-inspector Nitin Shankar Shinde.

Police said other members of the family were present at home at the time of the incident.

“They took Sharma to GT Hospital where he was pronounced dead,” Shinde said, adding that he did not leave behind a suicide note.

Sharma was studying BCom through correspondence and was in his final year. “He was

depressed since Sunday and kept telling his family that he was anxious about his studies,” said Shinde.
